  • I have been asked so many times by different people if the pom that they have purchased is purebred Pomeranian or a pomspitz. I have even been asked by our club the same question. Accordingly, this blog. My only suggestion for anyone who wants a good Pomeranian is that they should go to a reputable breeder to give them some sort of confidence in what they are really getting. They should look at the parents of the Pomeranian puppy to get some clue of what the puppy would look like when he/she matures.
  • The range of Pomeranian sizes is quite large. There are basically 3 canine clubs that really affect the canine world namely: KC, FCI and AKC. It is based on these perspective that I am writing this blog.
  • The ideal is to buy the perfect Pomeranian…or breed to a perfect Pomeranian. The realistic side is…is there such a thing as a perfect Pomeranian? Does this specimen really exist at all? Most likely, it will be perfect in the eyes of one person but if I were to do the picking, I am sure I will find some faults…at least 3 things I would like to improve on. Really, evaluating a Pomeranian should be based on the overall package. It’s all a compromise!
  • In my opinion, breeding by the checkbook is the most efficient and and less stressful way of building up one’s Pomeranian stock. It is far simpler and less expensive than breeding the poms yourself. For one thing, Pomeranians are not very productive and the best ones seem to have a more difficult time surviving. It is very heartbreaking to see your pick pups die on you. At the end of the day, I start thinking that considering all the moneys that I spent in upkeeping my kennel and breeding program, it would be far simpler and more efficient if I buy selectively the poms that I like from chosen breeders…that is, if they will sell you the dogs of your choice.
  • Pictured on the left is PH HOF Am Tha Ch Canton Bravestar. He continues winning in the Philippine show ring with several Breed and Group Placements maintaining his position as the Number 1 Pomeranian and Number 3 ALL Breed in the Philippines for 2008. There is no other Pomeranian in the breed line-up who will be able to reach his status for the year 2008.
  • I like to share my experience in airshipment of dogs to foreign countries and I hope that this would help others avoid being duped. Luckily, being an accountant and my past experience in banking has helped a lot in discovering this anomaly in good time.
  • Part I: The Black Skin Nightmare Black skin is an unexplainable sickness in Pomeranians wherein the dog would lose its coat and will not grow back. There is NO cure for this. This problem would occur at different ages, sometimes at a year of age when some dogs blow off their puppy coat(and the coat will not grow back)… sometimes later like 3 years old or …sometimes much much later in the life of the dog. This is the nightmare! Unlike other faults, like undescended testicle/s, by breeding age, you will know whether the breeding specimen you are using have or do not have that problem. In the case of black skin, you will not. It may occur soon after or much later after you have kept a line-up of puppies for your breeding program, only to find out that their sire is infected with this ailment. What do you do with these puppies now? What happens when you are a well known breeder and the pups that you sell, though they reach their championship awards would eventually come down with this black skin? Can you ever get out of this problem… or at least avoid it?
  • A Philippine champion is a dog that has won 15 points with 2 majors, winning points under at least 3 different judges very much like the AKC championship system. The maximum points per show is 5 points which means that the fastest finish is in 3 shows of 5 point major each. A Philippine Grand Champion is a Philippine Champion who has accumulated an additional 25 points. Since the dog is already a Special, this usually mean Best of Breed or Best Opposite Sex wins...instead of the mere Winners Dog or Winners Bitch wins;alternatively, another possibility is a Reserve Best of Breed going to a Group Placement. The additional requirement is that the dog should also have at least 3 Group Placements.
  • Parker, better known as AM CH Pufpride Sweet Dreams is the Number 1 Top Winning and Top Producing Pomeranian of all time in the USA. He was bred by Virginia and Warren Dimmick of Pufpride Kennels. He was made famous by the expert care, handling and perseverance of Noble Inglett who earlier pushed several other dogs in the American top Pomeranian chart. Because of his show and breeding record, I would say that today, intenationally as well as within the USA, Parker is the most sought after bloodline in the world.
