Basilio Yap has been a dog fancier since 1977. Having initially imported the best stock from England, USA,
Japan and Taiwan, many of them well known champions, he popularized the POMERANIAN breed in the
Philippines under the Canton suffix. Canton Pomeranians continue to dominate the Philippine Pomeranian
show ring with the most number of homebred champions titled on a yearly basis; as such, he has been the
Number ONE Pomeranian Breeder in the Philippines from 1977 to present.. His other homebred
pomeranians have attained other Asian, European, American, Australian and African championship titles.
He has been honored by the American Pomeranian Club as the Number #2 Pomeranian Breeder in the
USA for the year 1999 for the homebred Canton Pomeranians that finished their American title that year.
This is such an honor for someone residing and doing the breeding in the Philippines.
Presently, he is very interested and challenged with the less
ordinary colored pomeranians, or what is termed as the exotic colors which generally are quite
undeveloped in quality compared to the more popular reds and oranges. However, his WHITE AM CH
Canton White Fantasy won Winners Bitch over 46 females(in standard and more developed orange colors)
in a Pomeranian Specialty Show in Texas. His BLACK AM CH PH HOF Canton the Gigolo, did a lot of
winning both in the Philippine and USA ring including the first Philippine Battle of the Champions. His
BLUE Ph Ch Canton Blue Fever is one of the few blue pomeranians in the world. Soon, he hopes to be
able to produce Chocolate, Lavander, Particolor, Merle and Brindle Pomeranian Champions.
His English import PH GR CH Laparata Baron was the first Pekingese to win Best in Show after years of
obscurity of the breed in the Philippines. He has finished many Pekingese to their Philippine championship
and some grand championship titles. He has owned, shown and bred Toy Poodles, Maltese, Miniature
Pinschers, Yorkshire Terriers, Shih Tzus, Shetland Sheepdogs, Dobermans, German Shepherds, to name
a few.
