34: International Dog Expo in Italy
I happily received some very good news from Italy informing me that our homegrown Canton Pomeranians did a clean sweep with all the major Pomeranian wins in the International Dog Show in Bastia Umbra. Judges were Ernesto Capra and Pierluigi Buratti.

Young Class 1° EXCELLENT: Ph Ch Canton Bridget Jones
Champion Class, Best Dog, CACIB: Ph Ch Canton Tie N Tails
Champion Class, Best Bitch, CACIB: Ph Ch Canton Legally Blonde
BEST OF BREED: Ph Ch Canton Tie N Tails
THE 1° EXCELLENT ARE 5 POINTS FOR ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP YOUNG
It is not clear to me why Bridget was in another class when she is a Philippine Champion like Tie and Blonde. Perhaps, it is because of her age. In some FCI countries, a dog cannot be considered a champion until he or she is of a certain age and winning certain shows at that age. Maybe this is the case with her. (In the Philippines, a foreign champion will have to compete in the Regular non-champion class.)
Early this year, I received an email from Gloria wanting to get a Pomeranian from me. She is from Italy. And so, I responded that since she is from an EC country and my country is not in the approved list, it was almost impossible. However, if she was willing to pass thru the hassle, I was willing to work with her. That would mean that:
- She had to come all the way to the Philippines to do her own choosing,
- Go back home to Italy and wait for 4 months. During which time, we would be securing a rabies titer test from the University of Kansas City…extract blood, send the blood specimen, wait for the results, complete an EC passport form; total waiting of 4 months from date of extraction before the dog can go,
- After 4 months, she must come back to the Philippines to collect her dog and bring it back with her. Dogs coming from the Philippines and going to an EC country has to be accompanied and not shipped as cargo. Otherwise, the shipment would be considered commercial.
After I gave her this requirement, I thought that would be the last I would hear from her. Surprisingly, Gloria and her husband Paolo decided to come! They decided on Bridget, Blonde and Tie to be finished as Philippine champions. Gloria together with her son, Jesse came back 4 months later to bring home their beloved poms.
It is all so flattering for someone to go to all this trouble. And so, I treated my new found friends with our very own traditional Philippine hospitality. It so much reminded me of my own efforts when I started travelling all around Japan, Taiwan, England and US just to buy Pomeranians…those cross country travelling by car, by train and by plane! Most of my trips were all reciprocated with some courtesy and some, with good finds.
And now that I hear that my Canton Pomeranians did some good winnings in their new home, I am very glad.
In the meantime, with my new partnership with other breeders in US/other countries, I will be able to ship from those countries without all the mentioned requirements.

Hi Sir,
Congratulation upon knowing that your lovable poms made it in Italy, It only proves that your poms are international standard.
I remember last May or June, when we had a seminar in your place, that I was even had a chance to see & hug these puppies.
Now they are in international scene. It was very heartwarming especially when I was even looking & asking about Tie n Tail coz he's so cute.
Hay naku, proud papa ka na naman. Nakakaingit. I hope I can have these kind of dedication & resources as yours. GRABE talaga!
Again I salute you.
Regards,
Leny
Good day!
Hello, sir. my name is Dr.Luisa Sara, 37 y.o from davao city. i have a german friend. She had been here for 6months now. A common friend gave her an "askal" dog. As we all know, germans treated their dogs like one of their own family members. Our great concern now, sir, is that ,the dog must have a blood titer test for rabies and should be done in korea. Problem is no forwarder would accept to send the dog's blood to korea. weve been finding ways for three months now and had been spending a lot of money for this.... my question is..how did you send you dog's blood for specimen to italy? pls give us an advise. we are desperate now. My german friend wont go home to germany without her dog. Hoping you could help us. Thank you so much
sincerely,
luisa
I suggest you go to a human laboratory that does blood test, let them do the blood extraction if they are willing or if not, let a vet do it instead, then let the laboratory do the shipment since they do that too.
